Gary, Indiana-NIPSCO officials have advised that some residences in Gary’s midtown may be impacted by work being performed today to fix damage to a gas main at 19th & Madison Street.
It is reported that approximately 100 NIPSCO customers will temporarily lose gas service this afternoon. NIPSCO has contacted residents affected by this gas outage and will contact residents to relight pilots. NIPSCO work is expected to be completed today.
Anyone experiencing a gas smell in their residence should call NIPSCO. Before calling, do not light matches, turn electrical switches on or off or use a telephone in the building. Get out immediately if there is a gas smell inside the home or business. Remain outside after calling NIPSCO at 1-800-634-3524. NIPSCO will send someone to check the source of the odor.
Residents should also call the Gary Fire Department for gas emergencies by calling 911.
